Word of the Day
Tuesday January 2, 2007
Actuate (transitive verb) – to move or put something or someone into motion (from Medieval Latin)

Word in a Sentence: Joseph actuated prophecy when he took Mary and her unborn child to Bethlehem.

Now, I know there are creative people out there. Let's see what sentences you can come up with. (And, no, I don't expect you to be serious.) For instance, "I wish someone would actuate the members of Duran Duran toward the recording studio to finish their current album." (So it's a stretch, but do you get the point?)

Your turn! Actuate those keyboards.

I have decided I am going to actuate a new method of dealing with my son - he will no longer be permitted to drive my car unless it is an absolute, major emergency. I do not care to deal with any more late night phone calls requesting assistance from his sister and her husband to come get him - and my vehicle - out of ditches or removed from fences he has hit!

Oh no!
(great use of the verb)
Jeni! I hope everyone's okay. Your insurance rates must be insane...

Well, prior to this event, my insurance was actually fairly reasonable and my son's had been relatively so for quite a few years too! Who knows now though what direction things will go! Some boys just never grow up, ya know - the simple simon son is 33 years old and sure as heck should have known better! Thankfully, luckily really, for him, no injuries except to the car and the most expensive fence in the whole village where we live, actually that fence is probably the most expensive one in the whole danged township. It encloses the perimeter of this family's home that is large in area, and the home sits so far back in that it can not be seen from the road and they have a huge cast iron gate at the entrance lane back to their house! (We're talking the "exclusive" family of the village you know! Of course! No one else around here would/could put up a fence like that to begin with!)
